The Porsche 356 is one of the most recognizable and pretty sports cars of all-time, regarded by most aficionados as the purist’s choice, the model which launched the brand into the world scene. This particular 1963 356 B Cabriolet T6 has a very unique history to go with it. In the early 1960’s, Lindsay Saker, the then official agents for Porsche in South Africa, finalized an agreement to assemble 57 semi built Porsches locally for final assembly to avoid expensive import taxation. However, 7 units fell off the ship during transportation in the Suez Canal. The rest made their way safely to Johannesburg. The cars were primed body shells, which meant clients could spec their cars. While this plan effectively avoided the 100% import tax, it made the 356 variant a very expensive proposition, ensuring they are relatively scarce in South Africa. These are the only 50 Porsche 356 cars that were the only Porsches assembled by a Porsche Importer anywhere in the world, outside of the Porsche factory in Germany. This specific car has done 94,000kms since new, and has been meticulously restored to a very highest of standard, and the car is without any marks on it. The car has been meticulously maintained over the years by Porsche Specialists, and is mechanically perfect and drives beautifully. Original spare wheel, jack, and tools are all complete. It’s finished in a stunning Navy Blue exterior with Grey leather interior.
